Google is blocking scrapers and, by one account, feeding them wrong results
Schwartz reports that rank tracking tools are still struggling weeks after Google began blocking scrapers in September. He relays Derek Perkins of Nozzle describing three moves by Google: wide blocking of residential proxy networks, many more captchas, and "injecting bad data into suspect SERPs". Nozzle's piece, titled "Poisoned Google SERPs", is quoted as saying "Since September 2026, Google has been poisoning the SERPs it serves rank trackers" and "8.0% of SERPs came back poisoned", with the summary lines "The page looks normal. The results don't." and "It passes within days". Sistrix, DataForSEO, SE Ranking, Advanced Web Ranking and Morningscore have all posted notices. Schwartz's own reading: "I don't think Google is taking these efforts to block the tools SEOs use but rather to go after AI bots and SerpApi." Limits: no Google statement, the 8.0% figure is one vendor's and its method was not read, and the article does not say whether AI Overviews or SerpApi's results are affected.
