A repeat test found ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity still cannot read a page whose main text is loaded by JavaScript, fourteen months after the same test first found it.

Reported, not confirmed

Standing items: ChatGPT, Google, Perplexity, Claude, Bing, Cloudflare

ChatGPT's only new entry (20 October) is locked chats, a privacy feature, with nothing on search, links or shopping. Google's changelog still ends at 16 October. Perplexity's changelog is unchanged since yesterday and still marks no Sonar model as deprecated. Anthropic's newest post is still 18 October, Bing's webmaster blog still 13 October, and Cloudflare's newest posts (20 October) are about a certificate compromise and a TypeScript port. Search Engine Journal's 20 October piece on the Cloudflare and OpenAI discovery pilot adds no new statement or figure beyond the 15 October post carried here on 16 October.

Glenn Gabe: three assistants still cannot read JavaScript-loaded pages

Method in one clause: Gabe asked each assistant to read a page and return its first and last paragraphs, on three kinds of page (main text fully loaded by JavaScript; static header and footer with the main text loaded by JavaScript; a parallax/WebGL site), repeating his August 2025 test. ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity failed all three. Gemini succeeded on all three (its third "success" returned the page's error message), and Copilot on two of three. His conclusion: "So over a year later, AI Search platforms still cannot render JavaScript-based content." Limits: three scenarios, no stated count of sites or test dates, the result is what each chat tool said rather than a crawl log, and Google AI Overviews were not tested (Google's own guidance says it can process JavaScript content).

Barlo Digital: what AI Overviews cite for marketing-services searches

Method in one clause: 117 US desktop Google searches for marketing help (ads management, SEO, websites, lead response), one run on 5 October through DataForSEO with the AI Overview expanded, counting each cited domain once per overview. An AI Overview appeared on 97 of 117 searches (83%); 90 listed sources, with a median of 7. The 90 overviews cited 402 distinct sites, 329 of them (82%) only once. YouTube appeared in 54 of 90 overviews (60%), Reddit in 31 (34%), LinkedIn in 17 (19%), agency directories such as Clutch in 7 (8%), Google's own pages in 7. Agency websites dominated: 88 of 90 overviews cited at least one. Barlo's own site was cited zero times. Limits: one day, one data vendor, desktop only, domains rather than pages, nothing on clicks; the author's agency sells a $497 AI search review.
