Google's rules for a business's own Maps listing now bar prices, time-limited offers and calls to action.

Confirmed at source

Google's Business Profile policy: no prices, offers or calls to action in the listing

The section now opens: "Contributions to Google Maps should reflect genuine experiences or define a business's permanent identity." For merchants it bars, in listings, "Promotional or commercial content that contains any of the following: Time-bound promotions, pricing, or direct calls-to-action." For posts it bars "Email addresses, phone numbers, social media links, or links to other websites in your posts that are not related to your business", and adds that "Offers and updates that may be seen as promotional or commercial content are otherwise permitted in posts." The limits: Google has not announced the change, the page shows no date, and the only evidence that the wording is new is one practitioner's screenshots as reported by Search Engine Roundtable. The page does not say how the rule is enforced or what happens to a listing that breaks it.

Google's crawl-rate guide: error codes for more than a day or two can cost you the page

Google reorganised the guide and added the `Retry-After` header: "When returning a `503` or `429` status code, you can also include a `Retry-After` HTTP header". The warning that matters to a small site was already there and is now easier to find: "We don't recommend that you do this for a long period of time (meaning, longer than 1-2 days)", and "if Googlebot observes these status codes on the same URL for multiple days, the URL may be dropped from Google's index." The guide speaks of "Google's crawlers" in general. It names no AI crawler and says nothing about OpenAI, Anthropic or Perplexity.

Google's spam update: day fourteen, one post

The incident still carries only the 24 September launch post: "The rollout may take up to two weeks to complete." Two weeks is 8 October. No completion notice.

Standing items: Perplexity and Claude

Unchanged. Perplexity still says Sonar requests "are being reformulated as Agent API requests, rolling out gradually by model" and names no model. Anthropic still lists `claude-sonnet-4-5-20250929` as deprecated with retirement on 30 November 2026, and `claude-haiku-4-5-20251001` as active with "Not sooner than October 15, 2026". The engine's `main` is still `06233ce`, with `sonar` and `claude-sonnet-4-5` in `src/adapters.ts` and `claude-haiku-4-5` in `src/extract.ts`.
